Well KAPOW ! At last we managed to take all three points, not without a few scares along the way, mind you any less than 3 points would have been hard to take as we dominated for long periods and could have won by three or four. Another great character builder for the team that did little for my blood pressure, Toff and Jake put in two really good last ditch tackles to ensure we retained our 1 goal lead. The two goals we scored were great finishes, Callum finishing superbly from a very tight angle and Harry rounding off a clever short corner worked by Jam and Ben L. These three points still give us everything to play for, those with games in hand have to play each other and that can only work in our favour. Lets stay positive and confident but don't forget that we will have to work for everything in the last five games if we are to realistically have a chance of promotion. Good again to see Jon and Ben being decisive between the sticks and sweeping when the opportunity arose. Keep it up, stay focused and keep playing football, anything can happen over the next few weeks, lets ensure that our effort does not falter over the coming weeks. A good result and a well deserved three points, well done.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-3643482638964055258?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Olney 1 Wing Raiders 1

Bah Humbug ! Terrible pitch, terrible conditions (same for both sides), terrible Ref (questionable as to whether this was the same for both sides). I don't think turning 43 has made me more cantankerous ? I do find poor refereeing / officiating though completely unacceptable, have a bad meal in a restaurant and you don't pay for it yet we had to swallow this tripe today. It was never going to be a great footballing spectacle in those conditions and on a very heavy pitch, it was one where we needed to roll our sleeves up and get stuck in. We took the lead through a great strike from Ben Lucas, just reward when you think the offence that lead to the free kick was almost common assault. We came in at half time very muddy and 1 nil up, could have been two but Joel never got the chance to slot home his one on one !! (I could have knitted a scarf in the time it took for the linesman to put his flag up, having said that he ran 15 yards to get level with Joel before flagging). Wing equalised in the second half and could have had a second but for a great save from Jon. We never really hit top form today but we are a footballing side and these conditions were never going to be in our favour. As I say we need to stay positive and look at the positives............Wing beat us twice last season.............We never lost today..........there were some really good individual performances............A year ago would have lost a game like this. Jake Stokes was superb today and Toff played really well but the MOTM went to Calvin. Sorry to any parent who may think my match report is far from sporting, certain incidents today were verging on cheating and for some of the challenges to go unpunished was not acceptable. Football is and always will be a passionate game, watched by passionate supporters, played by passionate players and teams run by passionate managers. I don't think our lads openly displayed their frustration or annoyance to the Ref and that is something that I am proud of. My soap box is now being put back in the garage.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-2259945631928360760?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Olney 1 Brookfield 2

What a bitter taste defeat leaves in the mouth, we were out fought first half and came in a goal down, sadly this was probably a fair reflection of the first half. Brookfield were up for this from the start, a big strong team who demonstrated a great work rate from the first whistle. We played some good football but lacked clear cut chances today, unlike us when you look at our previous results. Second half we demonstrated a desire to not be steamrollered and promptly equalised, a fantastic finish by Callum to bring us level. To be honest I would have taken a point there and then, you just got the impression that the ball was not going to run for us today. Ten minutes later Brookfield broke very quickly and found themselves 2 v 1, a simple square ball gave the striker a relatively simple chance that he calmly took. Our heads never dropped to our credit but Brookfield defended very well, they got plenty of people behind the ball and limited our space, when we did get behind them their keeper was in great form. They will trouble a lot of teams this season and there was no shame in today's result, lets hope we can now replicate the run we put together after our last defeat. Man of the match went to Callum, a very hard working performance that was capped off with a great goal. Calvin and Jake pushed him close today, the pair of them tackled like Trojans. A week off next weekend, enjoy the break but come back with the same resolve that we have demonstrated previously. A day of what might have been, it happens sometimes and whilst its frustrating it is very much a part of football. Mr Brown deserves a mention, a very busy young man today who showed some great handling under pressure, well done.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-7771660726692210079?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Olney 3 MK Wanderers 0

Not all habits should be kicked, winning is one of them. Three points, three fantastic goals and our third clean sheet on the bounce. Today was about our commitment, resolve , belief and ability. This was almost text book stuff, soak up the pressure whilst playing into a very strong wind and come in all square at half time. Whilst we had the odd jittery moment we controlled so much of the first half without really testing their keeper. The wind was always going to benefit us second half, sometimes a goal at the right time can break a teams resolve and so it proved today. Mr Ayers dispatched a 'trademark' thunderbolt from 20 yards that literally flew into the back of the net, a perfect tonic for us that clearly rocked MK Wanderers. This lifted us as a team, some of the passing and movement surpassed anything that we have demonstrated so far this season. We created half chance after half chance, when we did find them goal bound their keeper was performing heroics. We needed a second to secure the victory and your thought that it was going to take something special to beat their keeper for a second time...................Mr Sweeney duly delivered. A strike with venom that gave their keeper no chance at all as it flew into the bottom left hand corner. (great technique to generate the power and keep the ball down) The second finished the game really, we relaxed and played some great football, just time for Toff to out pace the full back, cut inside and slot the ball home with his left peg. We are showing a true belief in what we can achieve this season, the job is less than half done and we need to show the same resolve next week. On another day five or six people could easily have merited the award of MOTM. (Calvin, Josh, Ben A, Harry, Callum, LLoyd) Today however it went to Jake Stokes, played in numerous positions and marshalled the team in Freds absence, typified the teams resolve and desire. Each week these reports become harder to write, I know what you are capable of collectively, it is great to see you living up to those expectations and more often that not surpassing them. As always a pleasure to watch and a pleasure to manage, lets keep focused and hope that the season can deliver what our current efforts merit. Enjoy the week, enjoy the result and never underestimate your own individual contribution to another fantastic result. Rumours have it that Fred has a real shiner and that Brownie may have been the guilty party ! The things he will do to try and get a game on pitch. <br />(Spurs 9 <em><strong>nine</strong></em> v Wigan 1)<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-295333903953245806?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Olney 2 Winslow Utd Tigers 0

Three points, clean sheet , two superb goals , a great team performance and all this against a team that are top of the table and had previously thumped us 6 nil. I asked for commitment and a real demonstration of the kind of football that we have produced over the last four or five weeks................boy did you deliver. We were keener, first to the ball, used it superbly and chased back to win possession every time we gave it away. We really defend from the front and build from the back, the work rate was superb today, an awful lot of you covered so much ground on a big and heavy pitch. We are finding our way with playing 3 - 5 - 2 and the wide men really have taken on board the importance of their defensive roles. As I keep saying we are not playing kids football anymore, the standard of football played and your understanding/reading of the game has been great and improves week on week. The goals today were both special and came at very important times during the game. Mr Ayers once again dispatched a great shot from 20 yards out that flew over the keeper and into the back of the net, the second was a fantastic move that saw Josh show great composure to slot the ball home from 12 yards. As with previous weeks the woodwork and lady luck deprived us of more. Harry and Callum were both unlucky not to head in, 'H' showing great determination and bravery at the back stick only to see his header come back off the post and Callum met a fierce cross that saw the ball go over by inches. You are becoming a joy to watch, the need to shout and holler is diminishing each week, yet again demonstrating the level of maturity and understanding that you are all displaying whilst on the pitch. A fantastic result that really has put us back in the promotion chase, we must keep our feet on the ground as every team will want to beat as, just as we wanted to beat Winslow today. We know what we are capable of, there is now a huge expectation for us to deliver every week......................enjoy the pressure as all good teams have to. Lets keep focused and retain the resilience that we have displayed over the last few weeks, but as always enjoy the result and keep playing with a smile on your face. Man of the Match today went to Tawf, a very unselfish display and his work rate was superb. This was a team victory and each and every one of you contributed in a massive way. Enjoy your week and lets hope we can maintain the high standard that we set today.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-6191587432151844145?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Olney 9 United MK Eagles 0

Today we were rewarded with a scoreline that reflected our dominance, work rate and composure in front of goal (not you Tawf !!) Our football in spells was fantastic to watch, smooth flowing passes on the deck that saw us stream forward in numbers and create enough chances to have doubled this scoreline. To be fair to United MK they kept playing and battled for everything, its never easy for any team to start a season having to bed in 7 or 8 new players. It was great to see us demonstrating composure on the ball and picking out some fantastic passes that created chance after chance. The goals were shared around today, another great attribute for any team to have, then to cap it all off we kept a clean sheet with both Jon and Ben having to slide out on more than one occasion to stifle the opposition strikers. Harry chipped in with two today (great composure for both) Callum kept his head to finish clinically, Joel slotted home from a great ball rolled into the box by Tawf, Ben Ayers scored an absolute screamer (made up for the one last week that came back off the crossbar) Tawf bagged two for the second week on the trot, still baffled how we never claimed a hatrick though, Jamie netted the other two, one a free kick that eluded everyone before trickling over the the line, the second a good finish after some clever footwork. No egos in the team and that leads to some great team spirit and a real willingness to pass the ball around, we built from the back superbly today and this enabled us to get behind them. Today was a real squad victory and thoroughly deserved, great to see Josh, Joel and Jack back from recent illnesses and Callum having sunned himself in the Maldives !!! Real test next week, we have the chance to right some serious wrongs from our first encounter. Well played today, all of you. MOTM goes to Jamie, thought he used the ball very unselfishly today and battled hard in the middle.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-8906473922769211294?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Olney 2 Wootton 1

We don't do things the easy way that's for sure, lady luck once again appeared to be against us, another week where we should have walked off at half time two or three goals to the good, we hit the woodwork three times in the first half. As it was we came off all square, Toff netting his 3rd of the season. (great assist from Calvin)With no outfield subs it was a big concern that tiredness could prove to be a huge factor in this game, thankfully not the case. We played great football in spells and you all demonstrated the willingness to roll your sleeves up and get stuck in when the need arose. Some tremendous tackling today (Jake) and some fantastic last ditch tackles. (Calvin & Fred). Wootton were a decent side, we weathered their onslaughts and broke with confidence, Toff probably a bit guilty of lacking composure in the 18 yard box at times. Our pace yet again caused the opposition all kinds of trouble and our deliveries from dead balls were superb, Harry also putting in some great early crosses. With three minutes to go you really got the impression that we would not get the rewards our endeavours merited, thankfully this was not the case ! Jake knocked a great ball over the top and for once Toff hit his shot early, rattling the crossbar on the way in. No better way to silence his nemesis or his critics. We have a great squad, a great spirit and a tremendous attitude towards the game, keep it up. Man of the match went to Fred but there was once again three or four players out there today playing at the top of their game. (Jake, Calvin, Harry, Ben A) 'Special mention for Jon Holt, great performance running the line in difficult circumstances' Others teams will be taking note of our recent form, lets keep this up, everything we have achieved we have genuinely worked for, lets keep the momentum going.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-6820117761018536063?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Olney 2 Fenny Stratford 2

Superb ! A real joy to watch today, it appears that we have turned a corner, each and everyone of you demonstrated a real desire to get something from this game, our commitment was fantastic and we played some excellent football. It was great to see us win 90% of the 50 - 50 challenges. Had lady luck been a bit kinder we would have won by a couple of goals, their keeper made a decent save from Llloyd and Jam and Joel hit the wood work three times between them. Our pace up front caused Fenny all kinds of problems, Ben and Joels work rate was immense today and they both added to their seasons tally. Three - five - two was always going to give Fenny space behind us but the midfield were superb today, especially where their defensive responsibilities were concerned, Harry and Toff had massive games today, a lot of importance was placed on their roles in this system and both put in their best performances of the season. Our dead ball delivery was quality today, corners and free kicks put Fenny on the back foot every time. We kept our heads and our composure and raised our game, you should all take heart from today, as I have always said we can and indeed should compete against anyone in our league, today just proved it. Not a bad word to say about anything today, the back three were big and strong, the midfield kept their shape and used the ball well and the front two will scare the hell out of any opposition. Lets build on this over the coming weeks, you should all be proud of your performances today, did your parents, the club and me proud.............Thank you.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-7246047902407410530?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Olney Town 2 v Brookfield Rangers 1

My pre-match talk nearly came back to haunt us when I said that we had probably had our quota of bad decisions this year, Ben Ayers promptly had a great goal ruled out for offside !! (look at the positives Ben, a great run and a tremendous touch to dink it over the keeper) We bossed the first half and played some good football, great to see us making simple 5 or 6 yard passes that created so much space. On a small pitch any free kick was going to be a goal scoring opportunity, both first half goals coming in the same fashion. Jamie sent a high ball into the box that eluded everyone and dropped in at the far post to give us a lead, Brookfield (against the run of play) equalised from a good strike 25 yards out. Half time saw us going in at 1 - 1, had we gone in two or three up it would have been a fairer reflection on our first half performance. I hate half time sometimes, we can lose our way and lose momentum that we may have had before the break, this was demonstrated again today when Brookfield came out looking a team very hungry for the three points. To our credit we weathered the storm, only just at times though, as the half progressed we grew in composure and started once again to play some nice football. We used the wings well today and delivered some great early balls into the box, if it was not for their keeper we could have closed this game out a lot earlier, he made great saves from Ben Lucas, Harry and Joel. Today we played for the full 80 minutes and were rightly rewarded, Joel rounding the keeper to slot the ball home, a great finish that the move deserved. The back four had to work hard again today, not always pretty but so often effective. As with last week everyone gave their all, we still need to release the ball earlier at times, thus permitting us to capitalise on our pace. No real gripes though, one of those games six months ago we would have lost, showed character and a real desire today and you should be proud. You are growing up as a football team, Mr Sweeney demonstrating that on more than one occasion with some subtle shirt pulling and the odd obstruction, if it breaks the play up then its the right decision, there was nothing malicious in our play today, just a real desire to win. Man of the Match could again of gone to seven or eight players, Fred, Callum, Harry, Ben Ayers, Joel and Jake all had great games. Today however it goes to Ben Lucas, he arrived at the club with an awful lot of expectation being placed upon him, today he delivered a superb performance, he let his football do the talking and Brookfield found him a real handful when he pushed up top. Well done Ben, keep it up, that goes to all of you, I can enjoy my week so much more now. A good three points against a decent side.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-8212889317741707010?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Olney 3 Willen 5

Today we were beaten by a better team, marginally a better team. I said after last weeks horror show that the performance today was far more important than the result, to your credit you were superb today, each and every one of you. We played some lovely football, battled for almost everything and gave a bloody good team a run for their money. Had Lady luck been on our side and the ref up with play this could even of gone our way today, we hit the woodwork twice and their keeper pulled off a great save to deny Joel a second of the game. The penalty that should never of been probably knocked us out of our stride a bit today but we rolled our sleeves and kept our heads, well done. What a difference a week can make,I could not have asked anymore today and I thank you all for that. Mr Lucas will be available next week, even if I have to collect and deliver the de-registration form myself. Great to see Joel and Ben add to their tally for the season, just as good to see Lloydie rifle one into the top of the net also !! (no prizes for guessing which foot he used) Man of the Match could of gone to several players today, Harry had a massive first half, Ben and Joel created numerous chances and battled for everything, Josh was back to his best with some great touches and the back four stood tall and proud today, the Man of the Match today does go to one of that quartet, take a bow Calvin, a great game today mate, keep it up.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-2801185991868432497?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Olney 0 Winslow United Tigers 6

I think our worst fears were confirmed today, trying to motivate yourselves for tough opposition after the strolls in the park we have had over the past couple of weeks was obviously beyond us. A very subdued performance all over the park today, we never competed and that is unlike us, they had to much time, to much space and all to often. We stood off them something rotten in the first half, their desire to be first to the ball was far greater than ours. We lost the game in the middle of the park today, injuries to Fred and Jack unfortunately limited our options in bolstering that department. A bad day at the office today guys, we have to take some collective and indeed individual responsibility for such a lack lustre performance. Not all doom and gloom though, things can only get better ! Jon and Ben had great games today, some great kicking, good handling and superb saves. (Ben Brown walking off with the man of the match today, thoroughly deserved) We need to pick ourselves up for a very tough cup game v Willen next week, lets put this behind us and go into Weds and Saturday training with the right mental approach. 9 times out of 10 you will get out of a game what you put in, we never did enough to win or draw today, 6 -0 was however a bit of a hammer blow. Ben Lucas is available next week and will give us more variation in the way we play, still plenty of football to be played this season, lets not look back with regret in 8 months time about what might have been.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-3842451968140795275?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Olney 10 Winslow United Pumas 0

Superb, ok they may not be the best team we meet this season but they competed, they were strong and their keeper had a good game. The quality of our build up play was once again excellent, simple short passing and some electric pace up front. You stayed focused and that is not easy to do in games where you are in complete control. Our confidence as a team is growing each week as is your confidence in your team mates, we now look at the keeper as an option, something we would not have considered three months ago, credit to Jon and Ben for being dominant in the box and talking to their defence. As with last last week the goals were shared amongst five players. (Joel 4, Ben Ayers 2, Harry 2, Jake 1, Callum 1) Some very composed finishing today, placing the ball rather than trying to hammer the hell out of it. Not a bad performance by anyone today, the man of the match today though goes to Joel, more for the quality of his finishing than the number he scored. A potential 'Goal of the Season' contender today, the ball Josh delivered for Callums header would have graced any pitch at any level. Just as importantly as the 10 scored is the second clean sheet on the trot, great defending and some confident goal keeping. A stiffer test faces us next week when we entertain Winslows 'A' team, if we show the same ability then we are more than capable of getting a result, keep enjoying your football and play with a smile on your face, we must not however become over confident, next weeks game will be a real indication as to what we can achieve this year, lets not let ourselves down. Enjoy the result, enjoy the performance and enjoy school ! See you Wednesday at 6pm for training.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-7190518716211122578?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Olney 8 United MK Hawks 0

Where do you start ? The result was a fair reflection of the game, to be honest we could have hit 10 but that may have been unfair on the opposition who battled hard in the second half having gone 6 nil down before half time. What a difference a decent Ref makes to a game, what a difference a week in football can bring. You all played well today, the passing at times was superb, the defending was solid and the movement and pace upfront was superb. Before the game I commented that we don't shoot enough from distance, well you put that right today with three flying in from 20-25 yards. Harry showed great compusure in slotting home a penalty, never an easy thing to do, hero if you score and villian if you miss. Really good to see goals coming from 5 different players today (Josh 2, Tawfiq 2, Joel 2, Jam 1, Harry 1). The spirit was really good and you played the game right way, a real team spirit developing. Jon's kicking from hands has always been good but it was good to see him improve hugely on his goal kicks from the floor, a lot of good talking today that makes defending far easier.Lets build on this next week when we are at home against Winslow, lets put the Fenny game firmly behind us. Man of the Match today was a very close thing, I thought Calvin was superb and has settled in really well, Josh was back to his decisive best and Jake as always gave his all, all edged today though by Mr Ben Ayers. He never scored today but he battled non stop, chased everything and must have covered every blade of grass. Pleasure to watch today, well done and lets keep it up.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-9073723933584160593?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Olney 1 Fenny Stratford 4

Not the start we wanted, deserved or expected. Don't get me wrong we played quite well, the turning point however was without question the equaliser. (enough said) Take credit for the way you conducted yourselves and the way we played football today. The season starts for us next Sunday in the cup, we then have 18 league games to rectify some wrongs and 1 friendly left against Fenny !!!!! Onwards and upwards. I can only apologise that the ref never had the strength of character to ensure that a fair game of football ensued that was played in the right manner, you kept your heads in very difficult circumstances, thank you for that. Well played all. (Mr Brown made a save in the first half that would put Gordon Banks to shame, ask your parents who he was !!!!) Many positives, we scared them up front, we defended strongly but at times they over ran our midfield. Enjoy your week and Training Weds 6.30 - 8pm (Under the floodlights)<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-4151576236158395344?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Squad & Numbers For 2009/2010

1. Bromham were a strong side who grew in confidence as the game progressed. Our seventh draw of the season leaves us having W9 - D7 - L4, a pretty good return and probably a fair reflection on our performances over the season. It would have been easy to wind down before we got around to playing this match, thankfully that was not the case. We started well and played the better football in the first half, whilst chances were few and far between we took the lead through an absolute belter from Jamie.......................................................35 yards out. (trust me this has got further out as the night has gone on, now he is in bed I can write the match report it peace). Bromham raised their game in the second half and to be honest put us under a huge amount of pressure, the back four and Mr Brown stood fast and defended bravely. It was unfortunate that they equalised in the way that they did, a very dubious penalty, all said and done we probably had all our luck with penalties last week. I have said from the start that this is probably a foundation season for the team, if we can build on this next season we are capable of winning promotion. You have all played some fantastic football, I think that you have matured as a team and the positive communication between you all is great. For me personally it has been fantastic, you have been a joy to train , a pleasure to manage and great to watch at times. Take a bow one and all, 2008/2009 was fantastic, lets see what 2009/2010 has in store.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-6093627424977103413?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Olney 0 - Newton Longville 0

Firstly I apologise for my lack of discipline on Sunday, the only saving grace was that as the away team we never had to fork out for the refs expenses. We never really got the run of the green (field would be more fitting, hardly a pitch). Today was a perfect example of home advantage, just as MK United did against us Newton Longville played to their strengths, long throws, long goal kicks and very effective on a small pitch. We can feel frustrated that we never made the man advantage count but it was difficult to exploit space on such a small pitch. (there I go again, pitch, field !) It was a hot day and we worked very hard, we competed and never gave up, if you Analise the game we probably had ten shots on target and their keeper did well to keep a couple of them out. Mr Brown was excellent today, showed some great handling and capped off a good performance with a great penalty save, a deserved MOTM. I tried to give you all a decent spell on the pitch, this can sometimes unsettle the team and it is difficult to get a rhythm going, this was evident today. As always focus on the positives, we never conceded and therefore we never lost, strange for us not to score though. One game to go against Bromham, lets finish the season on a high, most importantly enjoy it. A good hard working performance that maybe lacked a wee bit of composure. (Mr Denham, you now have the worst disciplinary record at the club ! - actually you don't..................thats me) RESPECT - a great concept for all grass roots football but it needs to be a two way process. (Rant over - vote Clarke)<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-523278793361142874?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Dads 1 v Lads 0 (Men v Boys !!!!)

If the truth be known the 'lads' gave a great account of themselves today, they moved the ball well and played some great football, unfortunately they came up against a team of 'footballing legends. (in their own minds anyway). Both keepers had superb games today, credit to you both.<br />The Dads reverted to often to the long ball game, unfortunately their legs never really achieved a long ball, more of a mid range punt. Mr Stachini and Mr Stokes formed a formidable midfield partnership, Mr Stokes being the ball player and Mr Stachini playing anything that moved. (unlike himself). I tried to join in for ten minutes and raise the standard of the football being played but in would appear that my 'sigh - attic - er' (no idea how you spell it) got the better of me. Foggy managed to miss from what must have been a yard out and was promptly removed from the field of play (great save Brownie). Then Mr Houghton (John to his mates, Mr Houghton to us) received the ball on the edge of the box, brushed young Mr McCann aside and drilled the ball past / through the keeper to give the ' Dads / Bros / Mums / Mates / Passers By' a one nil lead. Had the team had the energy to celebrate I am sure that it would have been an all time classic. as it was they all just trundled back to the half way line. Some major personal battles were fought today, Mr Carmichael and Master Carmichael were apparently testing the durability of each others shin pads, the 'Stokes Clan' took it upon themselves to enact some of the battle scenes from Braveheart, Mr Ayers just let Ben out of his pocket from time to time so that he could take on some air. A great evening played in the right spirit, this is the first year where the Dads had to really compete.........................................next year will be the one. Thanks to everyone for turning up, really well supported and that means a lot. Well played everyone, I bet there are some tight hamstrings today !!!!!! 'Jon &amp; Calvin, you let your team mates down by playing well but you kept me happy............................................ and that what really counts.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-7385528354109078123?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Olney 1 - Bromham Youth Lions 6

Ouch, that score really hurt to type but all said and done we were beaten by a very good side who demonstrated that they can play football. Shame that their attitude is so cr*p ! The ref had a stinker, in fact addressing him by using the term ref is probably the only compliment that he is going to receive from me. All said and done none of the decisions he should have made would have changed the result, a degree of consistency would have been nice though. Thats that put to bed and my moaning over...............for now. We never folded, we never failed to compete, they were just quicker to the ball and in certain positions considerably taller. There was however numerous positives to come from the game, Connor scored a great goal that was full our hard work and a very, very good finish. Jack Denham showed and awful lot of heart and got his head to an awful lot today, Mr (darth vadar) Ayers demonstrated his darker side, not dirty but mature enough to give as good as he got. Jake and Freddy did their utmost today, even for those two it was sometimes like the Alamo. We put it behind us, we bounce back next game (19th April) as we have always done. MOTM today probably says how one sided it was at times, Mr Ben Brown had his best game of the season................it could so easily of been double figures. Keep it up Ben !! Thanks to the parents and the BOTS, thanks to Sam Denham for ensuring normal service was resumed...............I did not have to make my own coffee. Training Wednesday 6pm - 7.30. (Won 9 - Drawn 5 - Lost 4) You have been top and enjoyed your 15 minutes of fame, lets hold it together for the next two games and then we can look forward to building towards next season. After last weeks defeat it would have been easy to write the rest of the season off as having nothing to play for but we dug deep and showed a great deal of pride a and commitment. These three points were crucial for our confidence and our league position. We covered an awful lot of ground today, what we did lack in quality was more than compensated for by our work rate. After numerous half chances, created by Jakes long throw, we made one count. A great throw, a great flick on and a lovely flicked header from Harry to give us a one nil lead at half time. United MK equalised early in the second half, Ben did well to stop a rasping drive but he could not hold it, this was not as disappointing as the fact that their player found himself both unmarked and unchallenged as he followed the free kick in. To our credit we never let our heads drop and caused them lots of problems on the break, Ben Ayers ran his heart out today, those runs whilst not resulting in goals can sometimes eat up valuable time. Our winner came from a corner, a good in swinging ball that the keeper could only punch into his own net. (sorry, it is going down as an OG). Max deserves a mention today, man marking involves a lot of fruitless running and no doubt the odd ear bashing but he kept their no.14 quiet, therefore a job well done. Once again many of you had to do jobs for the team today rather than concentrate on your own performance, thanks for that. This may not have been a classic but we worked bloody hard for what we got. MOTM was a tough call today but I am going with Jake Stokes, battled and led by example, just pipped Freddy who once again defended like a trojan. Well done today. Thanks to Mr Stokes for running the line and for the BOTS for the refreshments, I know that it was Mothers Day but getting my own coffee is taking it a bit far !!!!!!!!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-2301199444710740630?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Olney 2 - Fenny Stratford 5

Not going to over do this today, we walked off at half time somewhat dejected and unfortunately rightly so. One result does not undo all the hard work that you have put in this season, it is a shame though that we could not demonstrate the same amount of heart in the first half. We played the better football in patches, we probably created more chances, we were however a bit slow coming out of the blocks. Lloyd pulled off an oustanding save to tip the ball over the bar, there was nothing he could do about the two pile drivers that nestled in the back of the net.No shame in todays result, we demonstrated second half that we are a match for any team, the 3 -4-3 or even 3-5-2 actually showed how adaptable we are as a team and you have all matured in a footballing sense greatly this season. We could have scored 6 and maybe we should have, we could have folded at half time but we didn't, today probaly highlighted that you normally get out of a game what you put in. Outplayed in the first half but we more than held our own in the second, Freddy, Jack, Jake and Ollie Church defended bravely and with great composure. Harry and Callum linked well again and chased everything, Liam and Connor both netted for us and both were good finishes. Good to see Ollie Carmichael getting back to his best. Mr Jones and Max both undertook a 'Man Marking' role, a somewhat thankless job but both stuck to their guns. I said at half time that if we lost 7 nil and had competed that there was nothing to be ashamed of, we lost 5 - 2 and whilst the defeat hurts we should take some pride from our secondhalf performance. I won't comment on the Ref as it would be wrong for me to do so, not a fan of Managers doing it though as they find it very difficult to be impatial, today summed that up only to well. Thanks once again to the BOTS for the refreshments and to Ian for running the line. We have always bounced back after a defeat, lets keep that tradition up next week. The MOTM today goes to a defensive unit that worked hard, tackled strongly and took the bit between their teeth.....Jack - Jake - Freddy - Ollie Church....take a bow.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-5015513313676847928?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Olney 7 - Newton Longville 2

Magnificent seven ! We played well today and walked off the pitch with a scoreline that was thoroughly deserved. The conditions were not easy but we coped well and played some lovely football. Without wishing to be rude to the opposition we could have reached double figures, their keeper was probably their man of the match and that says it all. They were no pushover today and we had to compete in every department, they were strong but could not deal our pace on the break. It was great to see Ollie Carmichael getting back to his best and to see Harry bag a brace to end his drought ! (first goals this year). Ben chipped in with a couple, two good finishes to be fair, Connor bagged our first in the first half and Liam kept us his recent good form to bag our last. The seventh is one for debate, potentially an OG but knowing that it will cost Mr Parker a 'deep sea diver' I think that it has to be credited to Callum. Five more league games to go, we really need to win them all and stranger things have happened. You played well today and I thank you all for that, MOTM is always a tough one, I thought that Jamie battled hard today and used the ball well, he was just over shadowed by Jake who put in another great captains performance. (an assist as well). Well done Jake, MOTM. Thanks to Mr Smith for running the line, to Mr Stokes for reffing (I am assuming that your whislte was broken today) and to the BOTS for the refreshments. Not pretty in places but a decent display capped off by three very good goals, the last being a fantastic team goal that was very well finished by Liam. We could and maybe should have been four or five up at half time, as it was Jamie and Ben ensured that we went in with a two goal cushion. With the loss of our two regular full backs we had to shuffle the team a bit today, it was good to see that positional changes were not met with moans or negativity. Callum and Harry linked up superbly today, Lloyd and Freddie won far more than they lost, Brownie was far more assured and his kicking from hands from much improved. Not a game to be fair that will live on in the memory, we did enough and that is all that's counts. MOTM could have been given to two or three today but no one stood head and shoulders above the rest, I think that Harry probably edged it due to his versatility today. Thanks to Fran for running the line.................did I say running ? Thanks to the BOTS for the refreshments and huge thanks to you all for you sympathy !!!!!.......................... The fact that we have drawn a few just highlights that we not an easy team to beat and we can grind a result out if we have to. I think that Home advantage counted today, a horrible pitch that did little to promote good football. On such a small pitch it permitted their keeper to play very direct and they are obviously used to playing that system. We should still focus on some positives today, whilst playing badly we managed to show enough character to come from behind twice and secure a point. Some desperate defending at times but effective, two quite soft goals though flattered the opposition. We played football in patches but never really got going, give United MK some credit though as they worked hard and defended in numbers, their keeper made one exceptional save. MOTM today goes to Freddy, he saw an awful lot of the ball today and rarely put a foot wrong. A point is better than none and on a day when we were not at our best its probably a fair reflection of our afternoons work. Thanks to Larry for running line and for the BOTS for the refreshments. The first goal after the break was always going to be crucial and we kept ourselves in it but scoring it. I thought we were slow out of the blocks first half and gave Waterhall to much time on the ball and never composed ourselves when we had possession. Second half was a different story and we looked a different team , real desire to get something from the game was evident from the restart. Josh scored an absolute belter, I said at half time that we had not tested Frodo in goal and the first time we did the ball sailed into the back of the net. Connor then showed a great touch to bring us level, this was created by a some superb passing by Harry and Callum and a ball to the front post that deserved to lead to the goal. Our third was a great strike from Connor, yet again emphasising that if you shoot..................you will eventually score. The second half saw us defend strongly and battle, traits that were missing in the first half. The midfield today carried out their defensive duties superbly, as always Freddie kept the defence tight and spoke to those around him. Connor, Harry , Josh and Ben Ayers were all in with a shout of MOTM today and on a different day they may well have won it. Today though it goes to Jake Stokes, at two nil down we were struggling, he came on and played a captains role, very difficult circumstances for him but I thought he showed a great deal of nerve, a huge amount of commitment and played some good football. When we played Waterhall away the team raised their game for Jake, today I think Jake stepped into the fold when the side really needed him. No one played bad today, we once again built on our fantastic team spirit, it would have been easy to fold at half time, you are all bigger than that and demonstrated that in abundance during the second half. Enjoy half term, enjoy the point that was hard earned today, enjoy the accolade from your parents as you thoroughly deserve it. Well done to you all.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-4483335961324308604?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Our Cup Hardly Overfloweth ! (0 - 4)

Beaten by a better team, certainly a more committed team who evidently wanted to progress more than we did. Out played by a better side I can always accept, it was our lack of heart, football and commitment today than was hard to understand. Several individuals put in Jekyll & Hyde performances from one week to another, you don't become a bad team or bad players overnight, this one result does not undo all the good but I think today that you let yourselves down. The one word I use over and over again is compete ! today however it was not in our vocabulary. Our midfield never supported the back four today and the game passed them by to easily. The front two had very little to feed off, down to the quality and confidence of their back four. Sometimes you just have to roll your sleeves up and get stuck in, I can't remember a single foul being given against us.................that probably says it all. There may have been several individual mistakes that cost us today but they scored a great header that would have been worthy of winning any game. No training Weds, training next Saturday 10.00 - 11.30am. ( i can get there on time so please show me the same courtesy, its a 10am start not a 10am arrival. Away to Cranfield on Sunday, 1pm meet at the football club. Josh scored a superb hatrick with three good strikes, a real joy to watch him hitting top form. Jamie slotted home calmly from six yards amd then Callum put the icing on the cake with a great flick header from a corner. The link up play and understanding between you all is evident for all to see, whilst our football was silky at times we still had the resolve to battle when we had to. A vital three points but thoroughly deserved. MOTM is never easy on days like today as several players were once again in with a shout, I have given it however to Jamie. I thought he won everyrhing today, held his position well and linked up the play nicely. Home in the cup next week, lets hope that we can build on the hard work that you have all put in over the past couple fo weeks.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-3844996125356166696?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Sunday 4th Jan 2009 (1 - 1)

On a pitch more suited to torvill & dean than a football team we produced a strong performance and played some excellent football. We once again demonstrated great character and indeed ability in salvaging a point having been a goal down. In all honesty our possession throughout the game should have seen us score more than the one but the one we did score was a great finish by Callum. For me it was good to see us hungry from the start, I was a little bit concerned before kick off that the three week break would take its toll, thankfully that was not the case. We are holding our own in a very competitive league and with only eleven players today that made the point all the sweeter. It gets harder each week to choose a MOTM as individuals have raised their standard and therefore good performances become expected rather than being a surprise. Fred, Jake, Callum and Jack were all outstanding today, not to say that the rest never played well, but for me Josh was superb today and thoroughly deserves the MOTM. We are at home next week against Brook End Colts, more of the same please but with three times the return. Happy 2009 to you all.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-6327122914756421713?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Wing Raiders - How Appropriate (3 - 4)

A very reflective drive home, I think that the prize of winning weighed very heavily on our shoulders today, it was obviously not meant to be. In Wing we have found our Nemesis, how they won that game is beyond me, having said that they demonstrated today the same never say die attitude that we had done for the last eight weeks. We played well in places without ever really finding top gear, we scored three which came as no surprise but we conceded two or three very sloppy goals that were down to our failings rather than Wings footballing prowess. One bad game does not shape a season, we are still very capable of going on another run and putting ourselves right back in the promotion chase. You have days where individuals under perform, it happens and is very much a part of football, we however had departments that appeared to misfire today. Our midfield was strangely subdued, our defense was nervous, we missed two or three very good chances and we let our body language show too much negativity today. All said and done...................pooh happens from time to time, lets dust ourselves down and bounce back next week. For the first time this season I could not motive you into turning our fortunes around, I am very much part of the team and maybe I was not on top of my game today.Enjoy your week, come to training on Saturday with the right attitude and with this result put firmly behind you. A screamer from Mr Ayers, a very unselfish square ball from Harry for Bens second and Callum showed great determination in heading home the third. Never understood this comment from a footballing perspective but today <em><strong>'we were not at the races'. </strong></em> MOTM today was quite close really, Harry ran his heart out and battled hard today, he was pipped today though by Jack who hardly put a foot wrong..........well done and well deserved.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-5193348013564715290?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Sunday 30th Nov 2008 (OTC 2 - CMK 0)

Every week I am amazed by our commitment and our desire, today we demonstrated both in abundance and played some very good football as well. CMK would have expected to win today, as Waterhall showed the other week if good players lose the battle they also lose their heads. The quality of this performance was superb, our football going forward was great to watch, our defending was immense and we demonstrated that we can play ourselves out of trouble. As a team your understanding of the game improves every week as does your positional awareness and an understanding of your responsibility when you are on the pitch. So many great performances today, capped off by two fantastic goals, Mr Ayers finishing calmly and then Connor scoring a thunderbolt of a header from a fantastic free kick whipped in with pace by Josh. Individual mistakes could have cost us dearly today on a slippery surface, the truth is that they were very few and far between today, the handling of Mr Brown between the posts was tremendous and hopefully acted as a real injection of confidence. Fourteen contenders for MOTM today, each and everyone of you gave it your all, it was always going to take a special performance to win it. I thought today that Josh was instrumental in so much going forward and managed to carry out his defensive responsibilities also, his touch and vision have been evident in training but today he delivered on a bigger stage............a thoroughly deserved MOTM.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-2424616883131749369?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Sunday 16th Nov 2008 (OTC 3 - W/Hall 2)

Jake Stokes could not have been given a better tonic today, winning that game was the right result for a team who played the game in the right spirit. So often teams struggle to play against ten men, we had our moments but the pressure we put them under today was superb. Going 2 - 1 down had me thinking that maybe in was going to be one of those days, how wrong I was. We said at half time that if we played football against them the chances would come and they did, Ben scoring a great hat-trick. I cannot and would not criticise any of you today, great effort, great football and a great result. Several players stood out today, especially when we reverted to a 3 - 4 -3 when chasing the game. Lloyd gave me one or two heart attacks but sometimes you make your own luck, as a team you were immense, the cheers when the third goal went in could of been heard in Olney. To win MOTM today was going to take something special because each and every player did what they were asked to do, today however one individual showed his versatility and excelled whilst playing out of position.....................take a bow son, take a bow...........well done Callum. It would have been easy to walk away after the assault that our captain was subjected to, I would like to think that Jake would want no more than for us to capitalise on our one man advantage..........................and boy did we. Get well Jake, held your nerve today and turned the other cheek, not always easy to do but the right thing to do, led by example.........................well done Captain. No training this Wednesday, the training area is still very churned up and there is no point in making it worse.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-2327621812549129145?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Sunday 9th Nov 2008 (OTC 3 - C/Field 1)

What a day to remember, it would appear that we almost respected the minutes silence for a full forty minutes. Not our best first half performance, some of the changes did not work out and I take a degree of the blame for that, still does not excuse our often woeful football. We lacked a bit of composure from time to time, so often we swung our legs at the ball and missed ! Thankfully we came in on level terms thanks to a free kick that was won by Jake, Jamie dispatched it superbly to raise the mood and the tempo. My half time talk was quite easy, don't repeat the performance of the first, put a foot on the ball and choose your pass, want the ball and win the ball, if nothing else Cranfield knew how to battle and were determined. We were a completely different team in the second, the back four challenging for everything and winning most of the ball, clearing our lines long when we had to. The work rate second half was immense, so many lads ran themselves into the ground today and your effort in the second half was there for all to see. Jake Stokes scored his second of the season, converting a Jamie cross from the left hand side. That really enabled us to settle down and use the ball intelligently, summed up in our third goal that is a serious goal of the season contender. Jamie rolled an excellent ball down the line to Ollie Carmichael who then did what he does best, a first time cross with power and accuracy.................Mr Parker rose at the back post and showed great determination to head the ball beyond the helpless Cranfield keeper. As I always say don't carry the negatives about with you, your second half performance was immense and never have you fought harder for three points. On remembrance Sunday I salute you all, questions were asked of you first half but they were emphatically answered in the second half. Well done and thanks from a very wet, cold but proud manager. MOTM today goes to Jake Stokes, he played a captains role today and out of position, led by example.......nearly spoilt by one moment of petulance that I have put down to frustration and a desire to win. Mr McLuckie ran him very, very close, played through the pain barrier today and started to show what he is really capable off.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4509167073533843027-2491554795612202247?l=olneytowncoltsunder16s.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Sun 2nd Nov 2008 (OTC 1 - N. City Snts 0)

By no means our prettiest performance of the season but probably one of the best for numerous reasons. Our first clean sheet, our willingness to run and run, our determination to compete, our desire to be first to the ball, our team spirit. We started slowly and one or two appeared to be out of sorts but we found our feet and made it very difficult for New City Saints to settle on the ball. The back four were immense today and playing them together on a regular basis appears to be paying dividends. Connor did what you expect a striker to do, the only real chance of the match and he dispatched it confidently, (second time around) no practice swings next time. Ben Ayers and Harry ran their socks off, Harry and Callum linking up really well on numerous occasions down the left hand side. Reverting to a five man midfield may appear negative but it proved to be the right decision. Mr Sweeney made a fantastic save at the end of the first half, made even harder by he shouts of great goal from the sidelines. The midfield battled and used the ball well when we had possession, really good to see us play ourselves out of trouble. The MOTM today goes to Jack Denham, an absolute colossus today, battled and must of won 90% of the challenges that he made. As a team you deserved the victory today, your work rate was superb and your desire to win was evident for all to see. A pleasure to manage, I know that you may not think that from my team talks...................but you have set your standards high and my expectations match that. Enjoy the victory, each and every one of you were instrumental in that today.
