Olney 2 - United MK Eagles 1

Not pretty, not a great deal of attractive football played but a victory that was hard earned and thoroughly deserved. After last weeks defeat it would have been easy to write the rest of the season off as having nothing to play for but we dug deep and showed a great deal of pride a and commitment. These three points were crucial for our confidence and our league position. We covered an awful lot of ground today, what we did lack in quality was more than compensated for by our work rate. After numerous half chances, created by Jakes long throw, we made one count. A great throw, a great flick on and a lovely flicked header from Harry to give us a one nil lead at half time. United MK equalised early in the second half, Ben did well to stop a rasping drive but he could not hold it, this was not as disappointing as the fact that their player found himself both unmarked and unchallenged as he followed the free kick in. To our credit we never let our heads drop and caused them lots of problems on the break, Ben Ayers ran his heart out today, those runs whilst not resulting in goals can sometimes eat up valuable time. Our winner came from a corner, a good in swinging ball that the keeper could only punch into his own net. (sorry, it is going down as an OG). Max deserves a mention today, man marking involves a lot of fruitless running and no doubt the odd ear bashing but he kept their no.14 quiet, therefore a job well done. Once again many of you had to do jobs for the team today rather than concentrate on your own performance, thanks for that. This may not have been a classic but we worked bloody hard for what we got. MOTM was a tough call today but I am going with Jake Stokes, battled and led by example, just pipped Freddy who once again defended like a trojan. Well done today. Thanks to Mr Stokes for running the line and for the BOTS for the refreshments, I know that it was Mothers Day but getting my own coffee is taking it a bit far !!!!!!!!
