If the truth be known the 'lads' gave a great account of themselves today, they moved the ball well and played some great football, unfortunately they came up against a team of 'footballing legends. (in their own minds anyway). Both keepers had superb games today, credit to you both.
The Dads reverted to often to the long ball game, unfortunately their legs never really achieved a long ball, more of a mid range punt. Mr Stachini and Mr Stokes formed a formidable midfield partnership, Mr Stokes being the ball player and Mr Stachini playing anything that moved. (unlike himself). I tried to join in for ten minutes and raise the standard of the football being played but in would appear that my 'sigh - attic - er' (no idea how you spell it) got the better of me. Foggy managed to miss from what must have been a yard out and was promptly removed from the field of play (great save Brownie). Then Mr Houghton (John to his mates, Mr Houghton to us) received the ball on the edge of the box, brushed young Mr McCann aside and drilled the ball past / through the keeper to give the ' Dads / Bros / Mums / Mates / Passers By' a one nil lead. Had the team had the energy to celebrate I am sure that it would have been an all time classic. as it was they all just trundled back to the half way line. Some major personal battles were fought today, Mr Carmichael and Master Carmichael were apparently testing the durability of each others shin pads, the 'Stokes Clan' took it upon themselves to enact some of the battle scenes from Braveheart, Mr Ayers just let Ben out of his pocket from time to time so that he could take on some air. A great evening played in the right spirit, this is the first year where the Dads had to really compete.........................................next year will be the one. Thanks to everyone for turning up, really well supported and that means a lot. Well played everyone, I bet there are some tight hamstrings today !!!!!! 'Jon & Calvin, you let your team mates down by playing well but you kept me happy............................................ and that what really counts.
